The cheap street food is a common meal for many Nigerians from all parts of the country.

Ewa Agoyin is a very popular street food made of soft or mashed Beans and dark and reddish sauce.

The name ‘Ewa Agoyin’ was derived from Ewa, which means Beans in Yoruba language while Agoyin is a tribe in Benin Republic, a neighbouring country.

The Beans are particularly soft or mashed, while the sauce is usually dark and reddish.

It was first introduced to Nigerians by the first generation of Agoyin people who migrated into the country in the sixties. It grew in popularity in Lagos in the 80s’, then it got its much-deserved fame across Africa in the mid-nineties.

As mentioned earlier, the Beans is cooked till it becomes really soft and it is mashed afterwards. The sauce is prepared with palm oil, dry pepper, and Onions.

It is best served with the popularly known Agege Bread or Yam.
