The grand opening of Ma’s African Kitchen on Barton Street has given the Gloucester culinary scene a whole new dimension. This restaurant, owned and operated by Maggie Everitt, promises to transport diners on a gastronomic journey into Nigeria where they will taste authentic African cuisine right in the centre of town.

Maggie Everitt, who had dreamed of opening her own restaurant after 18 years in the making, was joined by distinguished guests, including the mayor of Gloucester, Kathy Williams, and the mock mayor of Barton, Jon Eeles. Maggie expressed her astonishment at the realization, saying, “It’s still a shock to me that this is possible.

It’s wonderful to see that.” Maggie chose Barton Street as the perfect place to open her restaurant because she wanted to serve the local African community, and she recognized it as a hub for those looking for authentic African cuisine.

Ma’s African Kitchen opens in Gloucester to celebrate the city’smulticulturalism, with Maggie highlighting its inclusiveness and welcome spirit. Ma’s offers a menu of traditional Nigerian meals, ranging from mild to hot, and it promises an explosion of flavour and delicious food prepared with halal meat.

Her excitement is shared by Maggie’s husband, David Everitt, who points out the dedication and hard work that went into making this dream come true. “It’s been a lot of work,” David said, “but we have arrived and are delighted to bits.

Ma’s African Kitchen is a unique and exciting addition to Gloucester’s culinary landscape, as the first specialized Nigerian restaurant in Gloucester. Ma’s is inviting you to taste Nigeria’s warm, delicious and hospitable hospitality here in Gloucester.
