Aquarech, a Kenyan aquaculture platform, has officially opened its first outlet in Kisumu, according to Dave Okech, the Founder, and Chief Imagination Officer (CEO) of Aquarech Ltd.

In a LinkedIn post, Dave noted that, the newly opened outlet in Kisumu is just the beginning, as Aquarech has additional locations in the pipeline, including Lower Kabete, Nakuru, Nyayo Estate Nairobi, and Kakamega.

“Each of these outlets represents an opportunity for Aquarech to extend its positive impact on the lives of farmers and consumers, bringing innovation and efficiency to the aquaculture value chain,” he said.

Dave Okech acknowledged the challenges faced during the journey, including late nights, endless meetings, and numerous obstacles.

However, he expressed unwavering optimism and excitement for the future, emphasizing the limitless potential achievable with hard work and determination.

“Aquarech, founded in 2019, has rapidly evolved from a visionary idea into a beacon of hope and innovation for both farmers and fish enthusiasts,” he added.

“The company’s unique model not only provides high-quality fish feeds but also ensures a market for farmers’ produce, fostering sustainability and growth within the aquaculture sector.”

The Kisumu outlet launch follows Aquarech’s successful closure of a US$1.7 million (KES 259,845,000) seed round in November of the previous year.

Aqua-Spark, a Netherlands-based global investment fund focused on sustainable aquaculture, led the equity investment, with additional funding from Acumen, Katapult, and Mercy Corps Ventures.

Christiaan Lensvelt, Head of New Deals at Aqua-Spark, commended Aquarech’s commitment to supporting small to medium-sized farmers and expressed anticipation in supporting the company’s endeavors.

The funds raised was set to be used to expand the team and further support vertical integration of Aquarech’s technology.

Aquarech’s fish farming platform, established by three co-founders – Dave Okech (CEO), James Odede (CTO), and Joseph Okoth (Director of Operations) – brings together various actors in the aquaculture value chain through streamlined mobile interactions.

The platform allows small and medium-sized fish farmers, feed makers, and buyers to connect and engage in transactions.

Additionally, the platform has mobile app that enables farmers and enthusiasts to access valuable information and adopt best practices, ultimately enhancing their income.
