Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday met with Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, at the presidential villa on Thursday, to discuss the country’s food security challenge.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, Alia emphasised the need for the Federal Government to prioritise agricultural development in order to achieve food security in Nigeria.

He expressed the importance of the Vice President’s support for Benue State, which is considered the food basket of the nation.

He highlighted the need for increased food production both in Benue State and across the country, recognising that Shettima’s agricultural background can contribute significantly to this endeavor

It is worth noting that a recent food and nutrition analysis supported by the United Nations revealed that nearly 25 million Nigerians are at risk of hunger due to food insecurity.

Alia also said he was satisfied with the election of Abdullahi Ganduje as the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the other newly appointed party officials.

He expressed confidence in Ganduje’s ability to assist President Bola Tinubu in uniting Nigeria through the envisioned renewed hope agenda.

“We have high expectations from the new leadership, and we believe they will not disappoint. They have brought talented individuals into leadership positions, and we trust them,” said Alia.
