The partnership will make it simple for Copia’s diaspora and urban clients to use the Cellulant network to start transactions and make purchases for their loved ones who live in rural Kenya.

When shopping for basic necessities, this gives consumers in urban and rural areas more choice, affordability, and convenience.

“We are deeply committed to simplifying e-commerce in Africa and are excited to collaborate with Cellulant in expanding Copia’s market reach.

“This will enable us to provide diaspora and urban customers with alternative and convenient payment options when they shop on Copia’s platform for friends and family across Kenya and Uganda,” said Tim Steel, Chief Executive Officer, Copia Global.

According to the Central Bank of Kenya, remittance inflows to Kenya have multiplied over the past fifteen years, hitting an all-time high of $3.72 million in 2021. (CBK).

Millions of rural communities are given a financial lifeline by digital payments sent by diasporans to them in various African countries, including Kenya.

The Copia internet store allows urban dwellers and diasporans to purchase items and have them delivered to friends and family back home.

“We are delighted to be Copia’s payments technology partner enabling consumers in the diaspora to make purchases seamlessly.

“As the African e-commerce and payments landscape in Africa continues to evolve, we believe that fintechs and e-commerce platforms need to have a deeper collaboration in expanding opportunities that will help ease payments and collections for businesses and their consumers across all sectors of the economy,” said Akshay Grover, Chief Executive Officer Cellulant.

Copia combines mobile technology, more than 40,000 locally based agents with digital capabilities, and a cutting edge last-mile logistics system to offer a wide range of products with efficient and dependable delivery to rural clients.

The eCommerce site just launched a new manufacturing facility to broaden its product line. This will increase production of its low-cost private-label rice and sugar for the Kenyan market.

The new machine, which Copia operates in pairs, will increase the amount of rice and sugar it produces under its own brand by double.
