Mr. Richard Ali, the Chief Executive Officer, Tigray Coffee Co. has hinted that he has always had the desire to create a new Nigerian coffee community just for the Nigerian palate and which has come alive in the Tigray Coffee brand.
According to Mr. Ali: “At heart is a desire to share, and to create a new Nigerian coffee community. I feel I am taking forward from my merchant mother’s roots, and paying homage.”
“I’ve opened this shop, started this company, created this team, networked these contacts, out of a singular passion: to mainstream our 100% Nigerian arabica Kwararafa Light Roast coffee, especially for the Nigerian palate,” he enthused.
Chronicling how the Tigray Coffee brand started, Mr. Ali recalled: “Growing up, my mum always had a shop, in Kano where I was born, in Jos where I grew up. Usually a small affair by the house or close by.”
He continued: “We grew up with the story of how, newly married, she started selling kankara (ice) in front of the house at Zoo Road, aided by her house girl, setting up as soon as my father drove off to work. He was already Company Secretary/Director of Accounts at a top Kano insurance company then. For her, it was about independence, a streak she’s maintained, which has saved us several times when the storms came.”
The Tigray Coffee boss then announced: “Our free coffee tasting continues today at the store, just in front of the ShopRite megastore.”
He then encouraged all coffee aficionados to race to ShopRite immediately and have a taste of the Tigray Coffee just to see the difference.
He said: “Our sales rep, Alis Garba, will be on hand between 10:30 and 5:30 to make you a coffee and tell you all about what we are doing to build this community. In this way, I hope to share my passion for Nigerian coffee with you. Come around, bring a friend along too.”
