Cook this amazing Urhobo’s Ovwovwo soup this weekend
This is a very delicious soup that would keep you licking your fingers after finishing a whole plate.
Ovwovwo soup, also known as egusi peppersoup is a favourite among the people of the Urhobo tribe in the south-south part of Nigeria.
It is a combination of two popular Nigerian soups which are egusi and peppersoup. It is quite spicy and delicious filled with a lot of flavors.

Ingredients
1/2 kg beef
1 cup periwinkle
kpomo
1 dry fish
2 cups egusi (melon seeds)
1/2 cup dried crayfish
10 okra fingers, sliced
8-10 scotch bonnet chillies, blended
1 small onion, chopped
1.5 tbsps peppersoup spice mix
Seasoning cubes

Instructions
- Grind the egusi and crayfish. Put your chicken in a pot, add 2 seasoning cubes, some salt and onions. Steam for 10 minutes.
- Add the peppersoup mix, ground crayfish and 1 litre of water to the pot. Cover and cook till the meat is tender.
- Add your dry fish, periwinkle, chillies and egusi and cook till the fish is done. (you can add more water if need be).
- Allow it to simmer for about 3mins. Taste for seasoning and adjust to suit your taste. Turn off heat.
Your Ovwovwo soup is ready. Serve with any swallow of your choice.
