Need a tasty dough dessert try Jamaica plantain tart
This Jamaican treat is one quite unusual but a nice blend of dough and plantain relish, its very interesting when trying out new savory mouthfeel recipe,easy to make delicious to consume.
- Egg white
- White sugar
- vanilla extract
- Ripe plantain
- granulated sugar
- ingredients for the filling
- Egg (beaten)
- Frozen butter(cut into pieces)
- Shortening(Cut into pieces)
Mix the dough in a deep bowl by combining flour and salt then add your shortening and butter and mix well till it’s well incorporated, add the egg and water, and stir into the flour mixture until a dough forms, then knead for a few min to bring the dough to a thick consistency now wrap it and put it in a refrigerator to chill for 1-2hours,while this is on peel your ripe plantain and put it in a pan with a little water and let it simmer for 10min or until plantain is tender, now bring out the plantain from the pot and put in a bowl then mix in your nutmeg, vanilla extract, red food coloring and sugar and mix well then set aside. Now pre heat your oven and bring out your dough from the refrigerator then start cutting into a round cookie like shape and knead the dough a bit flat then add your plantain pudding filling in the middle and fold in a meat pie like way, now place it on a baking rack and rub the dough body with whisked egg just like you do when making meat pie and also sprinkle with sugar then put the rack into the oven to bake for 20-30min and your plantain tart is ready serve hot.
