How to make Osun state’s Dodo-Ikire snack
This recipe gives you an option of what to do with your overripe plantains at home.
Named after a town in the southwestern part of Nigeria called Ikire in Osun state, Dodo-Ikire is a traditional basic appetizer that is made out of seasoned overripe plantains fried in palm oil.
The snack is very spicy, sweet, squidgy and very easy to make.

Ingredients
2 overripe plantains
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of dry pepper (chilli powder)
1 cooking spoon of palm oil
1 cooking spoon of vegetable oil
Crushed ground nuts (peanuts)
Instructions
- Peel over ripe plantain and mash to a paste
- Sprinkle the pepper and salt and stir in.
- Mix your oils and heat it up.
- Scoop the plantain with a teaspoon into the oil and fry on both sides till golden brown.
Your Dodo-Ikire is ready! Serve warm.
