African recipe vegans will love


African cuisine has not always been linked to vegetarian or vegan diets and lifestyle choices and the popular idea that vegan or vegetarianism is foreign to African culture is far from the truth.

Below are some vegan recipes you should know.

1. Fried Bean Cake

Also known as koose or Akara in west Africa, a version of them can be found in parts of Brazil where they are known as acaraje filled with salsas and other fun filling is a good choice for a vegetarian paired with pap also known as ogi.

2. Garam Masala

This spiced Rice is a staple dish in Tanzania known as Pilau Rice, which first originated from the influence of Indian traders and settlers. However, it is made in a unique way in which adding cashew to the Rice boosts the proteinous level.

3. Spicy Millet Porridge

This is commonly known as koko amongst the Northerners in west Africa. This is a type of dish used with fermented Millet Flour and Chillies, Ginger to give it a unique after-taste when consuming. Koko is mostly eaten with Fried Bean Cake or Moi Moi.

4. Lentil Bobotie

This is a typical South African national dish made with minced Beef and consumed by vegetarians and non-vegan.
