5 common mistakes you make while cooking rice
This is one of the easiest meal to make among Nigerians but there are lots of things you’ve been doing wrong.
1. Cooking on high heat
After the rice has boiled on normal heat, you should always reduce the heat and let the rice simmer. if the rice is completely cooked on high heat, It will cook too early and might end up chalky.
2. Opening the lid
Don’t open the lid while the rice is boiling, leave the rice undisturbed because the steam helps the rice cook faster.
3. Not rinsing out
It is advisable to wash the rice very well till the last batch of water is really clear so it can reduce the starch content in the rice to a reasonable level.
4. Using too much water
When about to boil your rice, there is a limit of water to be used that if exceeded, might result in soggy rice for rice pudding. 1 cup of rice should equal 2 cups of water and so on.
5. Not fluffing
We wonder if this affects the outcome of the rice but experts recommend you fluff your rice with a fork when it is done, especially basmati rice.
