How to make Ghanaian popular dish, Yam Eto (/ɛto)
Also known as Baayer eto, this is a popular ceremonial and traditional Ghanaian meal.
Yam Eto is commonly cooked during birthday celebrations and also given to brides on the day of their wedding.

Ingredients
500g/ 1lb Puna yam peeled and cut into smaller sizes
Salt as required
Water for cooking yam
4 tablespoons palm oil
1 onion sliced
1 clove garlic
Fresh pepper
Bird’s eye chilli
Scotch bonnet
Petite bell
Habanero
Boiled eggs
Avocado pear
Instructions
- Peel, dice into smaller sizers and wash yam very well.
- Pour the yam in a pot, add enough water with salt and boil under high heat for about 15 minutes till yam gets soft. Drain the water and set yam aside.
- Fry half of the sliced onions using Palm oil in a saucepan on low heat till oil gets softened then put off the heat.
- Grind the remaining onions, one clove of garlic and fresh pepper with an Apotoyewa till smooth. Mash the cooked yam with it till there are no lumps.
- Gradually add palm oil, beginning with 2 tablespoons to the mashed yam while still blending with the Apotoyewa. Keep adding pal oil till you get your desired result.
Your Yam eto is ready! Serve hard-boiled eggs, fried onions and avocado pear as toppings.
